How Envisioning Equity: Strategic Planning for Inclusive Organizations Came To Be
In the fall of 2017, Kara Wright, Rachel Pate, and Heidi Massey met through their participation in a racial equity fellowship with Chicago United for Equity (CUE). The focus of the fellowship was to learn how to apply a racial equity impact analysis (REIA) to policy and decision making in Chicago’s government, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors and then to actually begin to do so. At a CUE training in March 2018, Kara, Rachel, and Heidi begin to talk about the social sector and how few organizations were actually looking at ways to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy. They decided right then that they wanted to create a conference to move the sector forward to begin doing this important work. Within just a few days, they started meeting regularly to work on creating the conference. Over the next few months, they developed a basic outline and recruited a talented and committed team to join them and together they birthed Envisioning Equity: Strategic Planning for Inclusive Organizations.
